Last Friday, our students from Pre A-Level and Bilingual G5 put on a fascinating Gathering for Guqin show in the black box.
Guqin is a traditional plucked string instrument of Chinese Han nationality, with over 3000 years of history. It has a wide range of tones, a deep, rich timbre, and a melodious sound. Guqin ranks top of the Chinese four arts. It has been favored by scholars and literati traditionally as an instrument of great elegance, and also used as an accompaniment instrument. It always has been an essential knowledge and compulsory course for many scholars. It was quoted by a lot of poetry and Chinese literature.
G10 students Jeffrey, Moon and Michelle introduced briefly the Guqin, the Chinese traditional pentatonic scale and the Jianzi notation. The demonstration of G5 student Candy has made the gathering more lively and interesting.
It was an honor to have Ms. Ding Xue’er, president of Hunan Guqin Committee, Ms. Liu Min, famous Erhu performer and Mr. Zhang Zihe, master of Tai Chi in the show. The audience was impressed by their wonderful performance.
G10 students are studying the seven representative images of Chinese traditional culture and Guqin is the first unit.
