Culture Week之中学篇丨文化、身份与关系

The last week of September is our Culture Week which engaged students and teachers in celebrating and exploring diverse cultural backgrounds through a variety of fun activities. The Culture Week was initiated to nurture international mindedness of WES community and to build a more harmonious campus where people could understand and respect each other.

9月的最后一周是我们的“文化探索周”。作为一所国际学校,玮希汇聚了来自世界各地的教师与学生,也因此造就了学校的多彩文化。组织文化周活动,不仅能培养学生们的国际视野,也能促进不同文化背景师生之间的大融合。于是,在五彩缤纷的活动中,同学与老师们一起踏上了全球多样文化的探索之旅。


Class Celebrations 班级活动

Students of G6 made cultural bookmarks and handicrafts to share with each other. As we just celebrated the Mid-Autumn festival, they used this occasion to learn more about the moon phases. Additionally, they held a Photo Exhibition in school! In order to study the different characteristics of a same person in different identities and relationships, which is the centre idea of their Global Context unit, they took pictures of their friends, parents, teachers or themselves.

六年级的同学在文化周也展开了丰富多彩的活动。同学们制作了精美的文化相关的书签和手工作品相互分享;并且还围绕“十五的月亮十六圆”展开月相变化的认识和学习。同学们认识了月相一个周期的变化;为什么最圆月亮出现出现的时间总在变?每个月都有满月为何中秋之月“看起来”又大又亮等问题,欢迎大家来和六年级的同学一起探讨“月相变化”。同学们还办了个摄影展,作品来自他们的宏观背景课。他们研究的是同一个人在不同的身份和关系中会展示出不同的特点,每个学生都需要拍摄了一个人在不同身份和关系下的状态。


G7 prepared a special and impressive Chinese lesson for the students of international G4/5. They taught a poem of Mr. Ye Shengtao – Wind. Mr. Ye was an influential Chinese author, educator and publisher. In a collaborative way, G7 used watercolor, PPT and bookmarks to make the younger students get more ideas about the poem. Based on Mr. Ye’s work, they even created their own poem – Sunshine, Air.

七年级的同学为国际部四五年的同学带去一节别开生面的中文课,教授了一首叶圣陶先生的小诗《风》。七年级同学们分工合作,用水彩画、PPT、书签等多种形式让低年级的同学对诗歌有了深刻的理解。最后大家还一起模仿创作了诗歌:阳光、空气。


Keep Calm, It’s Only Puberty – to conclude their first unit of Global Context studies, Bilingual G8 students made presentations about puberty. They explored many issues that could happen to teenagers of their age, such as girls’ social way, the right way to interact with your opposite gender, etc. It was actually quite interesting and inspiring.

在八年级的“身份与关系”的单元学习中,他们围绕青春期的身份特点,探讨了青春期过程中的人际交往关系,自主邀请六.七年级的同学向他们开展了“Keep Calm, It’s OnlyPuberty”的专题讲座。这其中包含了青春期男生/女生不同的社交方式;青春期阶段思维模式的特点;与异性相处的建议以及如何有效的与家长沟通。


Cultural Show 文化汇演
In the Cultural Show, G8 class impressed the audience with their drama Banquet at Hongmen. It was a historical event that took place in 206 BC and was one of the highlights of the Chu-Han Contention, a power struggle for supremacy over China between Liu Bang and Xiang Yu. Our students will learn history through reading the script and performing on stage for many times. Teachers and students of international section were all invited and they enjoyed the show well.
本次文化汇演,八年级的同学们通过生动的表演再现了历史故事《鸿门宴》。在准备剧本与排演的过程中,学生们更加深刻地解读了历史人物与历史事件,这何尝不是一种对文化的探索呢?

As an international school, we believe it is important to celebrate diversity on campus and to realize that people in our own community have different backgrounds. Celebrating culture and diversity offers the opportunity for everyone to learn.
