Recitation Contest – Fostering Gratitude in Children

Gratitude is an important part of life. You can be grateful for a wide range of gifts, everything from nature or wonderful people in your life. A sense of gratitude can benefit children (and adults) in a variety of ways. It can decrease stress and has other important emotional health benefits. A person who is grateful tends to spend less time comparing him or herself with others and feeling envious. It also helps people, especially children, step into someone else’s shoes and be able to relate to other people’s feelings and to feel a sense of belonging in their classrooms and community.

Last Friday, the Bilingual Primary Department had a Recitation Contest with the idea of Fostering Gratitude in Children. Students who have passed the preliminary contest in their class stepped on the stage and read with passion about being grateful.

Grace from G5 encouraged people to cherish every precious moment with their parents and leave no regrets.

Sarah and Yuki from G2 prepared a poem to express thankfulness to mother.

Vicky and Andy from G1 were talking about being grateful for nature.

We invited parents and teachers to this contest. The judges rated the students on a scale of zero to ten.
