中外共享皮影戏 Shadow Puppet Show

The CWA and CWB community got together to celebrate our Chinese traditional folk culture last Friday, January 22 in the theatre.

We invited a very famous Chinese performer, Mr. Zhu Guo Qiang, to our school. Before the show, he kindly provided a master class on how to perform with shadow puppets for students in preparation for their ownperformance.

At the beginning of the show, CWA grade 1-2 students presented an amazing shadow puppet show as their summative assessment of their Unit of Inquiry ‘How We Express Ourselves.’ This was a collaboration among homeroom teachers, Chinese and art teachers. The students spent a few weeks making theirown paper puppets with the help of Ms. Jaffray, our art teacher, who is committed to incorporate Chinese culture into art class.

Then Mr. Zhu and his assistant provided us a great and professional shadow puppet show, which was enjoyed by everyone in the theatre. All the audiences applauded spontaneously in the end.

It was a great way to let students and foreign friends learn more about Chinese traditional folk culture. Let’s look forward to our next gathering!
